Filters (MMF / PSF / Side Stream)
Side Stream Filter
Purpose: Continuous filtration for cooling tower recirculation water.
Description: Side stream filters improve cooling tower efficiency by removing suspended solids, silt, and bio-growth from a small percentage (5–10%) of circulating water.
Design:
• Flow range: 5 to 100 m³/hr
• Pressure sand / multi-media type
• Auto backwash system with timer control
• MSRL / FRP vessel
Outcome: Reduced blowdown losses, cleaner heat exchange surfaces, and longer cooling tower life.
Multi Media Filter (MMF)
Principle: Depth filtration using multiple granular media layers (anthracite, sand, garnet).
Design Highlights:
• Velocity: 10–15 m³/m²•hr
• Filtration efficiency: 90–95% of suspended solids >25 micron
• Automatic backwash system using treated water
Construction: FRP / MSRL vessel with frontal piping and flow meters.
Applications: Pre-treatment for RO, tertiary polishing of STP/ETP, cooling tower filtration.
Pressure Sand Filter (PSF)
Function: Removes suspended solids and turbidity from feed water.
Design Parameters:
• Filtration rate: 10–12 m³/m²•hr
• Operating pressure: 2.5–4.0 kg/cm²
• Media: Graded silica sand (0.5–1.2 mm)
• Backwash flow: 15–18 m³/m²•hr
Applications: Pre-treatment to softeners, process water, and tertiary polishing.
