Filters (MMF / PSF / Side Stream)

Water Treatment Filters: MMF, PSF & Side Stream Solutions

Interglobe Engineering offers advanced Multi Media Filters (MMF), Pressure Sand Filters (PSF), and Side Stream Filters (SSF) designed for efficient removal of suspended solids, turbidity, and impurities from water. These filtration systems are widely used in Water Treatment Plants (WTP), Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), and cooling tower systems. Our filtration solutions are engineered to improve water quality, protect downstream equipment like RO membranes, and enhance overall system performance.

Side Stream Filter

Purpose:
Side Stream Filters are designed for continuous filtration of cooling tower recirculation water, helping maintain clean and efficient system operation.

Description:
A Side Stream Filter treats approximately 5–10% of circulating water, removing suspended solids, silt, and biological contaminants. This improves cooling efficiency and reduces scaling and fouling.

Design Features:

  • Flow range: 5 to 100 m³/hr
  • Filtration type: Pressure Sand / Multi Media Filter
  • Automatic backwash system with timer-based control
  • Construction: MSRL / FRP vessels

Benefits:

  • Reduces blowdown losses
  • Maintains cleaner heat exchange surfaces
  • Improves cooling tower efficiency
  • Extends equipment life

Multi Media Filter (MMF)

Principle:
The Multi Media Filter (MMF) works on depth filtration, using multiple layers of granular media such as anthracite, sand, and garnet to remove suspended particles effectively.

Design Highlights:

  • Filtration velocity: 10–15 m³/m²/hr
  • Efficiency: 90–95% removal of suspended solids (>25 micron)
  • Equipped with automatic backwash system using treated water

Construction:

  • FRP / MSRL pressure vessel
  • Frontal piping with flow measurement system

Applications:

  • RO pre-treatment systems
  • Tertiary treatment in STP & ETP plants
  • Cooling tower water filtration

Advantages:

  • High filtration efficiency
  • Better dirt holding capacity
  • Reduced maintenance frequency

Pressure Sand Filter (PSF)

Function:
A Pressure Sand Filter (PSF) is used to remove suspended solids, turbidity, and impurities from raw water, making it suitable for further treatment.

Design Parameters:

  • Filtration rate: 10–12 m³/m²/hr
  • Operating pressure: 2.5–4.0 kg/cm²
  • Filter media: Graded silica sand (0.5–1.2 mm)
  • Backwash rate: 15–18 m³/m²/hr

Applications:

  • Pre-treatment before water softeners
  • Industrial process water filtration
  • Tertiary treatment in water systems

Benefits:

  • Simple and reliable operation
  • Cost-effective filtration solution
  • Effective turbidity removal

FAQ

Multi Media Filters (MMF) and Pressure Sand Filters (PSF) are advanced water filtration systems used to remove suspended solids, turbidity, and impurities from water.

  • MMF (Multi Media Filter): Uses multiple layers like anthracite, sand, and garnet for deeper and finer filtration
  • PSF (Pressure Sand Filter): Uses mainly graded sand for basic filtration

A side stream filter treats a portion of the circulating water continuously, instead of the full flow.

Water passes through layers of filter media where:

  • Larger particles are trapped at the top
  • Smaller particles are captured deeper in the media

They are widely used in:

  • RO & water treatment plants
  • Cooling towers
  • Industrial processes
  • HVAC systems
  • Effluent & sewage treatment plants
